Munchkin Legends FAQ

As we had hoped, the announcement of Munchkin Legends caused quite a lot of discussion, both on our own forums and elsewhere. Several questions came up quite a lot, so we figured it would be a good idea to address them here.

Q. What is Munchkin Legends, anyway?
A. It's a new core Munchkin set, just like original Munchkin and all the spinoffs, such as Munchkin Apocalypse and Munchkin Zombies.

Q. Whoa, cool! When is it out?
A. It's available right now from target.com, and will be in Target stores nationwide later this summer.

Q. Target? Just Target?
A. Yes, this set is exclusively available through Target.

Q. When does this period of exclusivity end?
A. The terms of our deal with Target are between them and SJ Games, and it would be inappropriate for us to discuss them publicly. If, at some point in the future, we are able to make this available more widely, we will not be shy about announcing that fact.

Q. This doesn't seem very friendly to the hobby retailers who've supported Munchkin for over a decade. Why did you do this?
A. To continue to grow, SJ Games must expand our market as well as sell games to the people who already know about us. Selling Munchkin, and now Munchkin Legends, at Target has enabled us to do this. Every one of the sets sold at Target has advertisements for Munchkin games, expansions, and accessories that Target doesn't carry, and every set has a box panel ad and text in the rules that point to our Gamer Finder/Store Finder page, explicitly saying "here's how to find people to play with and places that sell even more Munchkin.

Q. The target.com site only ships to the United States. Will I be able to get this at Target stores in Canada or Australia?
A. We're still looking into this. We'll let you know more as soon as we learn it.

Q. I live in the United Kingdom. We don't have Target at all. How can I get this set?
A. Our agreement with Target gives them exclusive rights to sell the English-language Munchkin Legends set. Your best bet is to see if a friend in the United States would be willing to help you out.

Q. So I can't even order this from Warehouse 23?
A. Nope! "Exclusive" means exclusive.

Q. Will Target be publishing non-English versions of Legends?
A. SJ Games retains those rights, and it is possible some of our regular foreign partners will be releasing translations of Munchkin Legends. We're sure they won't be shy about letting you know!

Q. OK, so tell me about the set. If I know how to play Munchkin, how long will it take me to learn Legends?
A. No time at all! Munchkin Legends uses exactly the same Classes and Races as original Munchkin. If you can play one, you can play the other.

Q. I run a game review site, and I'd love to write a review of Munchkin Legends. Who should I talk to?
A. Drop a note to our Marketing Director. Please include links to other reviews you've written. We don't have enough review copies to satisfy every request, unfortunately, but we have enough to satisfy a lot of them!
